Positioning Denmark as a Global Design Nation
Design Society Denmark was appointed partner country for Hong Kong Business of Design Week (HKBoDW) – Asia’s largest and most influential design event, attracting more than 100,000 professionals working across architecture, design, business, and innovation.
LOOP Associates was commissioned to develop the spatial design and visual framework supporting Denmark’s presence throughout the event.

Creating a Unified National Design Narrative
The ambition was not simply to showcase individual Danish companies or products, but to communicate a broader understanding of Denmark as a contemporary design nation.
The identity and exhibition concept were developed to present Danish design as a strategic and integrated discipline spanning:
- architecture and urban development
- infrastructure and public systems
- services and user experience
- industrial and furniture design
- functional and aesthetic products
Rather than focusing solely on Scandinavian design heritage, the concept positioned Denmark as a country where design thinking operates across both physical and systemic scales.

Designing for Experience and Evolution
The proposal combined spatial identity, storytelling, visitor flow, and brand experience into a unified concept designed to activate the historic industrial surroundings in new ways.
Rather than relying solely on nostalgia, the project aimed to reinterpret Carlsberg’s industrial heritage through contemporary cultural programming, immersive environments, and flexible public experiences capable of evolving over time.
This created a more dynamic vision for how historic industrial sites could function within a modern urban and cultural context.

A Contemporary Representation of Danish Design
The final result created a unified platform that communicated Denmark’s design culture beyond aesthetics alone – presenting design as a strategic tool capable of shaping products, services, cities, systems, and human experiences.
The project reinforced Denmark’s position as an internationally recognised design nation while creating visibility for Danish creative industries within one of Asia’s most important design and business forums.
